Designer JW Anderson has curated an exhibit at Yorkshire gallery, The Hepworth Wakefield, entitled Disobedient Bodies.
Anderson, who is head of his own eponymous line as well as creative director of Loewe, took on the project because of his deep love for modern British art. The exhibit combines fashion and sculpture and explores the ways that clothing can ‘disobey’ bodies. Alongside figurative sculptures, the fashion pieces take on new meanings.
Speaking to The Guardian about the exhibit Anderson said:
“I am hoping when you have an Arp and a Christian Dior dress and a Sarah Lucas and a Hans Coper all together, it might conjure up something, because, ultimately, we don’t need to know about the history of sculpture or fashion. We just need to know: ‘Do I like it?’”
