Soho House is often a sanctuary in a sea of the unknown for those who know and even some who don’t. As a private members club and hotel, Soho House has 42 locations worldwide, all offering a variant of the same top-shelf experience and crowd. The charm of Soho House is that whether you’re visiting a house in your city that you often go to or a city in another country on the other side of the world, the Soho there will offer you the normalcy you need and desire. There is always some sort of up-and-coming DJing throwing down the fat beats on the weekend, you can get the Dirty Burger and butter lettuce salad, and the gym is probably the nicest one in town (if they have one). That’s why when we travel to a city with a Soho House, we always opt to stay and experience the opulence and comfort in familiarity.
While in Italy, we spent some time at the new(er) Rome House, located in the heart of San Lorenzo, the capital’s artistic quarter and the first Italian house. The stunning building is 10 storeys tall and has 49 bedrooms and 20 long-stay apartments. A 42-seat screening room, the always coveted Soho rooftop with a pool, bar and restaurant offers a 360-degree city view. There is a spa with several services, including cyro chambers, and of course, the as-mentioned gym with boxing and yoga classrooms, and it is one of the best across all the houses, probably because it is the brand’s first physical Soho Health Club.
The rooms offer the Soho charm with Smart TVs, Marshall speakers, Roberts radios, coffee and tea-making kits, fresh homemade cookies, a tempting minibar with bottled house cocktails, hair straighteners, and ALL Cowshed bath products. The XXL suite has DJ decks, while the Studios and Apartments come with full kitchens.
The building’s overall design comes from the group’s in-house team, Soho House Design, to fit in among Rome’s iconic facades. The exterior of the Rome House is pale peach travertine and plaster. The Brutalist façade is emphasized by the 10 stories of balconies, running the entirety of the exterior, creating a rippling effect that’s both unique and appropriate for the area. Inside the house, locally crafted Italian leather and glass have been incorporated into the design scheme, with furniture in the Italian burgundy and green colour palette throughout. The building takes inspiration from the Pastificio Cerere Foundation building – a local factory repurposed as an exhibition space in the 1970s.
Sounds tantalizing, doesn’t it? Despite Soho House being a private club, you don’t need to be a member to stay at the hotel. In fact, when staying at the house, you get access to everything a member has, except your journey to bed after the party is way shorter. If you are planning your Italian adventure, we highly recommend spending some time in Rome and staying there at the Soho House. You will have an experience unlike any other. Check availability here.
