Earlier this week we were invited to peruse shoes made for much warmer weather than we’re currently experiencing here in chilly Toronto. Spring and summer at Aldo is looking thankfully much more fun than the impending slushy winter, across everything from their in-house collection of shoes and accessories as well as Call It Spring, Mr. B, Shellys London and the stunning Aldo Rise x Oswald Helgason collection.
For women, the palette remained pretty neutral and monochromatic overall with elegant pops of neon red suede, cobalt, coral, neon yellow, as well as a few trendy holographic touches. Textures and techniques like perforated and woven leather, embroidered gauze, colour blocking, graphic black and white basket weave, fine snakeskin and fabric clashing made for an interesting collection across all the brands at the preview.
The obvious stand out was of course Oswald Helgason’s stunning capsule collection for Aldo Rise which incorporated colour and texture blocking in their small but fantastic chunky range of styles. Another stand out collection for spring which Aldo recently started carrying was Shellys London. For spring they’re staying true to their British roots keeping the collection totally punky with buckles galore, claw soles, holographic details, and the most fantastic pair of basket weave creeper wedges.
For men lace up’s seemed to dominate most collections and thankfully we’ll continue to see neon soles and laces for more seasons to come! Loafers were detailed with stitching on the soles in the higher end Mr. B collection which had everything from slip ons to narrow patterned sneakers. In Call It Spring, leather and plastic war fused to make a preppier sneaker that resembled a vintage Air Max, and basket weave slip on boat shoes bring a whole new meaning to dock side lounging next summer.
It was difficult not to love every single shoe at the preview, which can only mean one thing for our credit cards come spring (CAHCHING!)!
