Fresh off his collaboration with Louis Vuitton, controversial artist Jeff Koons has just revealed a new art installation, right in the middle of New York City’s Rockefeller Center.
The sculpture, entitled Seated Ballerina, is a 45-foot, inflatable structure. The work is inspired by a smaller porcelain version from Koons’ Antiquity series. Seated Ballerina is co-presented with Art Production Fund and Kiehl’s and is meant to raise awareness for National Missing Children Month and The International Center for Missing & Exploited Children.
Koons has said of the piece:
“I hope the installation of Seated Ballerina at Rockefeller Center offers a sense of affirmation and excitement to the viewer to reach their potential. The aspect of reflectivity emulates life’s energy; it’s about contemplation and what it means to be a human being. It’s a very hopeful piece.”
Seated Ballerina will be on display until June 2.
