The last few days of summer are numbered and if there’s one thing we Canadians love, it’s a good road trip! Whether it’s just a short day trip up to a farm to pick fruit, over to Prince Edward County for a wine tasting, or something longer, we put together a fool-proof list of five essentials to make any road trip totally awesome.
1. Plan Your Route
Always plan out directions to your destination before hitting the road. Printing off the directions or having them ready on your phone not only makes life easier for the navigator but also the driver. That way you can get down to the important things, like getting excited about apple picking and the playlist you’re going to listen to while you’re getting there.
2. Smart Snacking
As a road trip passenger, your snack game better be strong, and we’re not talking about chips and chocolate bars. Snacks keep your crew happy and focused on the road. Opt to pack fresh summer treats like sliced watermelon, sparkling elderflower water, and homemade cookies instead of processed packaged snack options.
3. Pack Your REACTINE®
You never know when allergies will strike, especially when you’re spending the entire day outdoors. Make sure to pack enough REACTINE® to go around for those in the car and check the pollen forecast before hitting the road in case you need to reschedule. Better yet, help relieve your allergy symptoms by taking REACTINE® before your leave the house. You can also follow @ReactineCA on Twitter for local pollen forecasts.
4. Make a Playlist
A good playlist can turn a good road trip into a great one. Make sure whoever is playing DJ for the day knows your audience and their musical tastes. Ensure there’s something for everyone on the mix and always be sure to have more fresh tunes for the trip home.
5. Have A Back Up Plan
There’s nothing more annoying than arriving at your destination only to find the apples aren’t ready to pick yet or the vineyard is closed. Have a couple back up locations in mind nearby your destination you can drive to easily before you hit the road so you’re not scrambling when you might be outside a mobile signal.
