Unlike Coachella, which is the official start of music festival season, New York’s Governors Ball marks the official start to summer. One of the best things about GovBall, aside from the incredible line up, is that when you leave the festival you are essentially in downtown New York. As such, you always have to make sure you are looking fresh and stylish, because you really do not know who you will run into, or where you will end up. You could end up chatting with a couple of fashion designers in the hotel elevator, or at a loft party doing shots with ex-NHL players. Come on, it’s New York.
Here is what I wore for Day 1 of Governors Ball, a New Era Blue Jays Cap, specially purchased for this trip, you have to make sure you have a clean hat on, while repping your hometown. The sunglasses come courtesy of New York eyewear brand MOSCOT. You don’t want to spend the entire weekend squinting so I choose the appropriately titled Governor Chameleon sunglasses with an impressive oversized and dramatic shape. The shirt was a blue Huf Volley Floral button-up short sleeve, and faded jean shorts from Australian brand Ziggy Denim. Now the most important item in the outfit was definitely the shoes. You have to make sure you are rocking comfy footwear, because after standing and walking around for 8 hours straight, you don’t want end up with blisters or worse. For this I grabbed a pair of Nike Air Force Lunar ‘Year of the Horse’ edition sneakers, with glow in the dark soles. Trust me, they looked incredible booth during the day, and at night.
