Known for its global One for One movement, TOMS is launching its newest campaign aimed at providing safe births for mothers. The TOMS bag collection is launching on March 6 across Canada, and is the fourth in the One for One campaign. For every bag purchased, the company will help provide a safe birth for a mother and baby in need worldwide. The program, launched by TOMS founder Blake Mycoskie came out of seeing the urgent need for improvements in maternal health.
“Being able to give in this way – one that helps save the lives of mothers and newborns – is incredibly special. The issue of maternal health is very close to my heart, as I just became a father this past December. I truly believe people around the world will be amazed at what these bags can do” said Mycoskie in the press release.
The TOMS bag collection hosts three different lines including Artisan, Travel-inspired and Campus and Tech ranging in price from $30-328. Each line of bags weaves a different story: Artisan is hand-crafted and sewn using techniques passed down from generations; The Travel-inspired line carries light, multi-functional bags that can be taken on your travels with ease (the line was inspired by TOMS employees and their worldwide travels); and the Campus and Tech is bright and textured, designed to carry all tech gadgets.
Funds from the purchases will go towards providing safe births in countries like Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Haiti and India, the company said, and will be conducted by the Toms Giving Partners network. The team will provide training for skilled birth attendants, safe and clean birthing kits as well as providing clean surfaces to help women give birth.
Toms originally launched in 2011 with its Toms Eyewear line, helping to restore eyesight to millions worldwide. Since then, it has also launched its premium coffee and shoe line.
