Last night in Toronto, Twin Shadow graced us with his presence after cancelling his last set of Toronto tour dates on the tail end of his Confess tour. Fresh on his Confess tour, his latest album which dropped back in January, the Pheonix was packed with eager fans out early to catch Zoe Kravitz and Lolawolf open. Some of them hoping her model friend Cara Delevingne, who’s in town filming a movie, might show up to support. And while Kravitz did join Twin Shadow on stage later in the set for an electric cover of Sade’s “No Ordinary Love”, sadly no Cara sightings took place last night.
George Lewis Jr. and his band (most of which are still in tact after over five years together, minus Russ Manning of Rush Midnight) played a high production set with some rhythmically reworked album cuts mostly from Eclipse and 2012’s Confess. Mixing in small handful of older cuts from Forget, Twin Shadow ended the set with upbeat album favourite “I’m Ready” and an apt choice for the encore, “Watch Me Go,” also from the new record. Twin Shadow has come a far ways from the days of opening for Glasser at the Drake Underground, but their live performance never fails to disappoint.
We’re glad to be with them on this journey and can’t wait to see where they goes from here.
