Last week in Toronto, Hermès invited 600 stylish guests to join in a celebration of artistry at their Masculine Sprit event which took place at the Fermenting Cellar in the Distillery District. The happenings of the evening included video and art installations spread throughout the space as well as a casual fashion show on a set built purely for the event to properly highlight the expert craftsmanship of Hermes. Models flown in from all over the world strolled around the event space wearing the current collections (occasionally going backstage for a quick change) interacting and mingling with guests.
As always with Hermès, there was a sense of humour and whimsy afoot within the installations including a wall of cashmere sweaters stacked up with a sign beside it becoming “Feel Me”, a real life mirror image of a Paris bedroom equip with matching model twins, a hall of identical suits fading most subtly from black to grey, a handmade suit taken apart and pinned all along a wall, and a model disguised as a flasher with a coat adorned with their fine timepieces inside.
Hermès menswear designer Véronique Nichanian was also in attendance to host the event, which properly showcased the collection she designed in an unconventional manner within a smashing party. The installations throughout the space highlighted the Ready-to-Wear, classic silks, accessories, home products, the leather motorcycle jacket, and the new Dressage L’heure masquée watch.
