As summer begins to wind down it’s time to transition out of those light, refreshing cocktails, into something just a tad stronger. But we’re not quite ready to give summer fruit a pass just yet, so we thought we’d share a fellow bartenders cocktail which is strong, fruity, and still refreshing all at once.
The Kentucky Fields cocktail is a heady mix of Bourbon, bitter Campari, and sharp lemon, mixed with sweet strawberries, simple syrup, crisp mint and cracked fresh pepper to top it all off. Weather you’re headed off to the cottage for the long weekend, or just chilling in the city, give Kentucky Fields a try for guaranteed good times.
INGREDIENTS:
2oz Bourbon
1oz Campari
1oz Lemon Juice
½oz Simple Syrup
2 Strawberries
2-3 Mint Leaves
Black Pepper
METHOD:
Muddle strawberries and a few mint leaves in the base of a cocktail shaker. Add Bourbon, we prefer Four Roses Single Barrel for an extra kick, Campari, simple syrup, fresh lemon juice and shake over large cubes of ice. Double strain into a rocks glass filled with ice and garnish with fresh mint and cracked pepper. If you’re having trouble getting the mixture to strain through, use a bar spoon to push the mixture through.
