Gloomy Monday nights only get better with a little London Grammar playing in your living room with the window open and the rain coming down, and their sold out show motivated us out of the house to experience it live (sans raindrop patter). In the midst of a full on storm London Grammar managed to pack out The Phoenix and warm our cockles with a short and sweet set of their new and old hits.
Surprise opener Haerts won over a crowd which seemed to be ardently waiting to be able to sing along to every word of London Grammar the entire show; we’ll admit elbowing through the serious crowd was not an easy feet, though we managed. When they finally took to the stage, looking a little tired, yet still eager, the crowd when nuts and a million phones poped up in the air to film the gradual ease of lead vocalist Hannah Reid’s ever powerful pipes.
Though it’s not the first time we had seen them live (read the review of their sold out show back in October at Great Hall) we were still blown away, crossing our fingers the whole time hoping they’d play more than just If You Wait, and though they didn’t play their All Saints cover or their Miley Cyrus one, they obliged with “Feelings” early on in the set and ended with a single song encore of “Metal & Dust.”
Take a flip through some of our photos and videos from the set below.
