While visiting Sydney a few months ago we popped into one of Merivale’s restaurant and cocktail hotspot Ms. G’s to take in a few asian-inspired drinks and sample their incredible Asian fusion cuisine. On the cocktail side of the menu are packaged referring to their alcoholic slushies, and unpackaged drinks, mixing asian ingredients like kaffir lime, plum vinegar, and chai syrup.
Bar manager Oliver was kind enough to give us a sneak peek at one of his original cocktail recipes going onto his late summer changeover to the list. Born in Britain, growing up Malaysia, and living all over the world has given Oliver a wonderful cultural backing to mix drinks to compliment the modern Asian cuisine at Ms. G’s.
He showed us a new cocktail recipe he’d be working on called What’s In Your Pan Dan, an homage to executive chef Dan Hong and pandan leaves, a traditional asian leaf used in curries and this time, a cocktail! Scroll down to find out how to make this delicious refreshing, and subtly sweet cocktail!
‘What In Your Pan Dan’ Cocktail
Ingredients:
50ml Beefeater Gin
25ml Pandan Syrup
50ml Sugar Syrup
10ml Lemon Juice
10ml Lime Juice
30ml Coconut Water
Pandan Leaf Garnish
Method:
Combine gin, pandan syrup, sugar syrup, lemon and lime juice, and coconut water in cocktail shaker over ice and shake until chilled. Spiral pandan leaf into a stemmed cocktail glass filled with cubed ice and strain liquid in.
