The Low Culture + Needles//Pins Split 7″ is a fun and fuzzed-up extramarital affair. Courtesy of Dirtnap Records, this release delivers the energetic symbiosis of a well matched Split.
Low Culture is a four-piece from New Mexico, featuring a mix of members from Marked Men and Shang-A-Lang. Tracks “Reservations” and “Don’t Tell Me” both feature coarse choruses that might as well have been ripped from longboarding compilation videos.
On the flip-side, the No-Fun-City trio Needles//Pins suitably contribute tracks: “Hateful” and “Bored”. But don’t be fooled by the lingering downerism implied: these are pure, ecstatic Power-Pop ditties in disguise, with crunchy garage riffs for good measure. Both songs are outtakes from the band’s Shamebirds LP, put out on Dirt Cult Records earlier this year.
