Last month we introduced you to the Clarks Mashup, a project started by the British footwear brand that brought together two masters of their crafts from two distinctly different professions. We were pleased to take part in the collaboration, working alongside a blacksmith and a DJ to create a surprising and unique mashup. Culminating at the Clarks Mashup Crawl at three hip locations in Toronto’s West End, the crawl was a chance for the three pairs of craftsmen to present their final creations.
Our mash-up featured Toronto DJ Yuknodis, Andrea Yu, and Paul Krzyszkowski of Toronto Blacksmith. Together, they literally banged out an original piece of music featuring sounds recorded inside the workshop pressed on vinyl.
A special record display was forged by Krzyszkowski to perfectly fit the limited edition record, signifying the blending of old and new seen in the Clarks Trigenic shoe worn by all who attended the crawl. Following that, we headed to the second and third locations of the crawl to see mashups from a woodworker and a 3D projection artist, and a glassblower and a light designer.
Considering Clarks is a legacy brand that manages to continuously innovate and push the boundaries of footwear everywhere, it only makes sense they would encourage and partner with other craftsmen as well.
