We were over the moon when we saw the Philip Sparks spring 2011 collection last year which marked his foray into womenswear. So naturally, we were delighted to take in his latest designs at the Fall Winter 2011 show last night on the 6th floor of one of our favourite Toronto venues, the Burroughes Building.
Sipping on Peroni and Rose Henkell we gathered in the main room lounging on DesignRepublic sofas and gazing at the designer watch installations by Hamilton, before being ushered into the more long and narrow room to watch the presentation. Set up into rustic vignettes with vintage sleds, steamer trunks, and snowshoes scattered in front of stunning deer tapestries by artist Grant Heaps, the show played off Canadian winters of years gone by.
Focusing on refined outerwear for the fall 2011 season, Sparks’ utilized wool, cashmere, photo printed cotton, linen, buffalo leather, and fluffy mountain sheep to construct his range of apparel and accessories. If we had to choose, our favourite looks for women would have to be the green wool Melton duffle coat, the plaid cotton pin-tucked shirtdress, and the mountain sheep beehive hat with matching muff, while for men we adored the burgundy leather bomber jacket, the silk zibeline bowties, and the flecked wool herringbone trench coat paired with cream hand knit fisherman sweater.
Everything was all so expertly executed and tailored, we actually cannot wait for fall to come back around again so we can get into some of pieces!
