Iconic Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama has just announced that she will be opening her very own museum in Tokyo this October.

While the 88-year-old artist’s retrospective exhibit, Yayoi Kusama: Infinity Mirrors, has been making the rounds at museums around the world, Kusama has secretly been at work on a project of her own. According to reports Kusama’s new museum has been in the works since 2014, but she kept it under wraps because she wanted to surprise her fans. The space has 5-storeys and is set to host two exhibitions a year. The first exhibit entitled Creation is a Solitary Pursuit, Love is What Brings You Closer to Art will include her most recent series of paintings. Additionally, the museum will have an entire floor dedicated to her ‘infinity rooms’ and other installations, as well as a floor housing a reading room and archival materials.

Although the museum won’t open until October 1, tickets will go on sale August 28. We can’t wait to check it out!
