Y-3 was founded in 2001 by merging avant-garde fashion designer Yohji Yamamoto with international sportswear brand adidas. The name suggests a mutual partnership with the Y standing for the designer, the 3 for the iconic triple stripe logo, and the dash in between signifying their link to each other.
