During summer ’16, hip Chicago mellow indie-rock act Whitney (made up of Julien Ehrlich from Unknown Mortal Orchestra and Max Kakacek of Smith Westerns) released their wonderfully chill debut album Light Upon the Lake and now they’ve announced a new 12” featuring two covers, “Gonna Hurry (As Slow As I Can)” by Dolly Parton and “You’ve Got A Woman” by Dutch duo Lion.

You’ve Got A Womanwas originally released as the B-side of Lion’s 1975 psych-pop 7″ But I Do. As singer/drummer Julien Ehrlich explained in a press release…

As soon as I heard it, I wished I’d written the vocal melody; it’s so catchy and powerful. It’s quite evil-sounding for us. It was fun to mess around with something darker and throw strings in.

Meanwhile, their Dolly cover of Gonna Hurry (As Slow As I Can) is one they’ve been known to play live and is just as sweet as the original.

Listen to Whitney cover Lion’s “You’ve Got A Woman” above and Cover Dolly Parton’s “Gonna Hurry (As Slow As I Can)” below.

Whitney’s “You’ve Got A Woman” (Lion Cover) b/w “Gonna Hurry (As Slow As I Can)” (Dolly Parton Cover) 12” is available now digitally and in stores this summer on June 2nd via Secretly Canadian. Their debut record Light Upon the Lake is also out now on Secretly Canadian – hit up your local record store and grab a vinyl copy, or if you’re lazy you can grab it on iTunes here.
