There are very few things we enjoy more than a good art Biennial and after several years of pandemic-related nothingness, the highly acclaimed Whitney Museum of American Art is set to hot its long-awaited 80th Biennial. Originally organized in 1932 as a way to spotlight the dynamic contributions in the United States, by highlighting artists in all creative disciplines and mediums. Since its inception, it has become one of the most important American exhibitions each year and has featured over 3,600 artists.
This year’s edition of the renowned biennial is titled “Quiet as It’s Kept” and has the advantage of two years worth of consideration and planning as this 80th anniversary was intended to take place in 2020. Featuring an intergenerational list of sixty-three artists and collectives at various points in their careers, but all of which work on art and ideas of our time.
The 80th Whitney Biennal is curated by David Breslin and Adrienne Edwards and is considered an ” ongoing experiment, the result of a shared commitment to artists and the work they do.” Take a look at the full list of participating artists below and if you are in New York City be sure to attend from April 6 to September 5, 2022.
