Vulture Festival is the brainchild of New York and its pop culture site, Vulture. In its second year, Vulture Festival packs the best of our tv, film, music, and fashion obsessions into one amazing weekend in New York City.
We caught the sold out St. Lucia and BANKS show at Webster Hall on Saturday night. True to form, St. Lucia’s set was made for dancing. Lead singer Jean-Philip Grobler admitted that he’s currently working on the new album and even played a few new songs. BANKS closed the show and we were disappointed to see and hear that the crowd chattered through her whole set.
On Sunday, we head to Milk Studios in the Meatpacking District for panels. New York fashion director Amy Larocca facilitated a conversation with Rookie Mag founder, writer, and actress Tavi Gevinson. Gevinson answered questions about her writing process, comparing her early journaling with her current writing process. Having recently finished playing Jessica on Broadway’s This Is Our Youth alongside Michael Cera and Kieran Culkin, Gevinson reflected on her decision to not attend college in favor of working and having industry giants as her mentors or “career parents.” She’s been writing publicly since she was 11, dealing with her fair share of criticism, and can now work on Rookie magazine full time. Rookie now has offices and are working on the fourth and final Yearbook. Gevinson had a lot of advice for fans about finding your personal style and navigating the fashion world.
Our last stop was the Hollywood Power Stylist panel moderated by The Cut’s Isabel Wilkinson. The panel consisted of Jessica Paster (Emily Blunt, Miranda Kerr, Leslie Mann, Aubrey Plaza & Jenny Slate), Erin Walsh (Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristen Wiig, Kerry Washington, Maggie Gyllenhaal), Brad Goreski (Jessica Alba, Demi Moore, Rashida Jones, Jenna Dewan Tatum, and more), and Brandon Maxwell (Lady Gaga). We got to hear the highlights and horror stories of styling, including the different perceptions of celebrity style. Check out our tweets from the event for quotes and video.

“It’s all wrapped up in money. It’s Hollywood. We’re not at church.” – @Brandonvmaxwell about the financial aspect of styling
