Not knowing how to speak French is not a valid excuse for not listening to the music of Julien Sagot. If you have ears, you absolutely must hear it. No exceptions.
The Juno award-nominated artist has a new album, titled Bleu Jane (which translates to Blue Jane), that comes out this Friday and it’s a David Lynchian dream. Sagot makes the kind of music that will give you butterflies and have you acting like you’re in some fabulous French film, as you slowly dance around with one of those fancy long cigarettes in hand because you’re *that* dramatic but also having fun with it, all in an effort to forget whatever existential crisis you’re going through today.
We here at Sidewalk Hustle are hella stoked to premiere Julien Sagot’s new video for album single “Les Sentiers de Terre.” Translation? “The Paths of Earth.” The art-noir lo-fi trippy video is directed/produced by Nicolas Legault and was filmed with some help from Julien Sagot himself. The clip features a masked Julie Robinson (who painted the Bleu Jane album artwork), flashing red lights and what appears to be a discombobulated disco-skull.
Incase you’re wondering what Sagot is singing, the lyrics translate to:
“Over here the paths of earth
You and I wander in a nowhere
Your body lost
When the sleepless nights
Turn white and clear
You free yourself without holding back”

Julien Sagot’s new album Bleu Jane comes out this Friday March 31 via Montreal-based label Simone Records. You can pre-order it here + catch Sagot live at O Patro Vys in Montreal on Thursday, April 6 for the Bleu Jane record release show.
