Leave it the VAWK designer Sunny Fong to bring out the Canadiana at Toronto Fashion Week for his autumn winter 2013 collection entitled Nordic Fauna. Mashing up the concepts of classic hunting gear and the clean modernity of Scandinavian interior design, the collection featured slick outerwear, classic work attire, grand ball gowns, and wearable separates with just a hint of kitch.
The collection began with a short film featuring wildlife imagery including close ups on beautiful snowy owls and deer, and continued on when the first model hit the runway, the snow continuing to fall onto a shot of the forest. The palette included navy blue, grey, rich creamy beige, black, pea green, and a white lit botanical print silk. A stand out leather appliqué deer adorned a black knit turtleneck, paired with a perfectly cut black skirt was perhaps our favourite look of the collection, while the crowd oozed excitement for a strapless belted black dress with fur pom poms attached.
We continue to enjoy Sunny’s collections from season to season and can’t wait to see what he’s got up his sleeve for spring next season as well.
