Toronto’s getting ready to roll out the red carpet for TIFF’s 50th milestone year taking place from September 5th to 15th and the first look is already delivering big-screen energy. Five newly announced World Premieres will anchor the Special Presentations program—offering a global snapshot of bold storytelling from directors both established and rising.
Among them: new features from Steven Soderbergh, Alejandro Amenábar, Sung-hyun Byun, Nia DaCosta, and Canada’s own Chandler Levack. Each project brings a unique lens—from period drama to political satire, psychological thrillers to sun-soaked coming-of-age.
TIFF CEO Cameron Bailey says this initial lineup reflects the “innovation, heart, and global perspective” that defines the festival as it marks half a century of championing cinema.
This year’s full festival will include screenings at TIFF Bell Lightbox, Roy Thomson Hall, Scotiabank Theatre, and more, with the TIFF Tribute Awards returning on September 8 at the Fairmont Royal York.
More announcements are on the horizon, including Gala Premieres, Platform selections, and the full slate of public and industry programming.
