Last weekend I jumped into a brand new 2013 Ford Escape and headed up to Vaughan Mills for a marathon shopping day with four of Toronto’s finest fashion bloggers Kimberly of The Souls of My Shoes, Nelia of StyleBlog, Anita of I Want – I Got, and Gracie of Gracie Carroll Fashion Blog. Our mission was to find the perfect outfit to wear to the tents at Toronto Fashion Week, which takes place in Toronto from October 22nd to 26th.
After a few quick group photos we piled into the roomy Escape, set the GPS for the trek up to Vaughan, where naturally, Holt Renfrew Last Call would be our first stop. Before we knew it, we had blown over three hours (and wads of cash) scouring every rack of discounted designer wares. Consulting the mobile map directory and news feature on “Vaughan-cierge”, the malls handy social shopping app, we headed on our way to the newly opened J.Crew Factory Store and later to the huge Joe Fresh store, to find a few affordable basics to mix with our designer pieces. The app proved to be rather handy during the ride home as well, using the “cost per wear” function to justify our purchases.
Managing to get more than an entire outfit from only three stores, I was thrilled to find in the fitting room that my vintage silk blouse and gold spear necklace layered perfectly with my new purchases.
In the end I was able to create an outfit with a stunning 3.1 Phillip Lim sweater found at Holt Renfrew Last Call for under half the original ticket price, a paisley skirt from J. Crew, a pair of night shade tights from Joe Fresh, and an adorable gold giraffe necklace also from J. Crew.
All the pieces tied in perfectly with my favourite Super Lucia shades, a vintage autumnal floral silk button-down from Penny Arcade vintage, my vintage oatmeal coloured eel skin clutch bought on etsy, my Niki & Lola angy spear necklace, and my Miista tan platforms. I threw on my wool MaxMara coat for an extra layer of warmth, and voila, I had the perfect outfit, all thanks to Vaughan Mills.
