Turquoise is having a moment. The vivid stone has been turning up across fashion and jewellery this season, bringing an unexpected hit of colour to everyday and now high jewellery. Now, Tiffany & Co. is giving the trend its own distinctly New York treatment with a vibrant new chapter of HardWear.
They’ve just launched nine new designs that pair 18k gold with turquoise and luminous Akoya pearls, that feel bold, polished and grounded in contrast with the HardWear pieces sculptural gold forms.
Chief Artistic Officer Nathalie Verdeille looked to a historic Tiffany necklace featuring lapis lazuli and pearls, famously worn by style icon Rachel Lambert “Bunny” Mellon. That archival reference is reinterpreted through turquoise and Akoya pearls, bringing a contemporary perspective to a piece of Tiffany history.
The collection also draws from the colour language of the Pop Art era, with turquoise punctuating the unmistakable HardWear links. The hero necklace and matching drop earrings alternate turquoise beads and Akoya pearls across the 34-inch convertible necklace which can be worn long, doubled around the neck, or shortened. Pyramid-shaped gold domes secure each stone, adding another architectural detail to this must have collection.
Turquoise has long been part of Tiffany’s gemstone legacy, with the new stones sourced from the United States and Mexico and carefully colour matched for consistency. The Akoya pearls are sustainably sourced from Japan and selected for their exceptional lustre and near-perfect shape.
