Thundercat shared the music video “Them Changes,” the lead single off his excellent third solo album The Beyond / Where the Giants Roam. The video features samurais dueling in a garage and the consequences of that encounter, including loss and injury. Director Carlos Lopez Estrada took inspiration from athlete’s careers for the video.
Stories like athletes’ careers ending after injuries or artists losing their site/hearing/ability to perform; these concepts are truly heartbreaking. I also know that Thundercat has a thing for samurais—so I saw an opportunity to make everyone happy here. Or everyone sad, I guess.
Thundercat, real name Stephen Bruner, has been pretty busy as of late, featuring and producing on Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp A Butterfly. Watch “Them Changes” above.
