Last night to open the Spring Summer 2012 edition of Toronto’s LG Fashion week Holt Renfrew showcased stellar Canadian designers Denis Gagnon, Dennis Merotto, Jeremy Laing, Lida Baday, Naked & Famous, Smythe, TwentyCluny, and Wings + Horns in “There’s No Place Like Holts”.
The models walked around huge neon letters which spelled out HOLTS down the runway separating each designer into its own edited grouping highlighting the main themes for the forthcoming Spring season.
For women, the use of silk throughout seem unavoidable at Smythe, Dennis Merotto, Lida Baday and Jeremy Laing, weather it be printed or brightly coloured, while simple black and white stripe spotting were worn playfully at TwentyCluny and buttoned up florals mixed with minimal floor length casuals at Denis Gagnon. For men the look remained prim yet casual at Naked & Famous, in chambray, white muted red, and green button downs paired with bow-ties, raw denim, khakis, and coloured pants, while layers, shorts and casual zippered jackets offered a more complete look at Wings + Horns finished with a leather jacket and a chunky looped scarf.
