The WBNA has announced the name and branding for their first Canadian team.  The Toronto Tempo will be the 14th team to join the WNBA’s ranks starting in 2026, drawing inspiration from the rhythm of the city, the country, and the game itself.

“Tempo is pace. It’s speed. It’s a heartbeat. And it’s what you feel when you step into the streets of this city, and in the energy of the people who call Canada home,” said Teresa Resch, President of the Toronto Tempo. “As Canada’s WNBA team, I know the Tempo will set our own pace, move at a championship cadence, and inspire people across this country.”

The fans heavily influenced the name and brand thanks to the “Name Your Team” program. This allowed people nationwide to participate, giving inspiration and feedback alongside a community council. The result is an identity designed and created to represent the team and its fans.

The name itself was purposefully chosen to work in both French and English, ensuring an inclusive brand for fans across the country. The logo follows suit, representing the teams, their values and the fans themselves.

Toronto Tempo branded merchandise will be available soon, with fans able to sign up at www.tempo.wnba.com to be the first to receive updates about tickets, contests, news, and when merchandise will be available.
