If you think the wait for Frank Ocean’s follow-up to Channel Orange has been insufferable, The Avalanches have nothing on him. Talk of a sophomore album from The Avalanches was met with numerous “soons” and “maybes” for over a decade following their critically acclaimed 2000 debut. After 16 excruciatingly long years of waiting, The Avalanches finally have new material to share with the world.

The Australian beatmakers debuted their highly anticipated track “Frankie Sinatra” featuring Danny Brown and MF Doom last night, and it’s completely bonkers in the best way. Known for their innovative approach to reimagining song samples, the new track really pulled out deep cuts from Wilmoth Houdini’s “Bobby Sox Idol” and The Sound Of Music’s “My Favorite Things,” resulting in a brand of audio lunacy only The Avalanches could take on so effortlessly.

The accompanying video for “Frankie Sinatra” is equally bizarre. Set in the swamplands of the deep American South, we’re taken through the effects of the consumption of a peculiar, yet inviting, neon yellow substance. The community becomes rabid with a pandemic of mass delusion and goofy hallucinations after consuming the neon sludge. Listen to the new track and watch the video at the top of the page.

Not only has “Frankie Sinatra” dropped, but their sophomore LP Wildflower was given a July 8 release date in an exclusive interview on Beats 1 radio with Zane Lowe. The album contains 21 spanking new tracks and a load of sick features from the likes of Father John Misty, Toro Y Moi, Biz Markie, and many more. Check out the tracklist below:
