Suno Deko is the solo project of poet and experimental pop musician David Courtright, who first made waves with his 2014 EP, Thrown Color. We were lucky enough to catch Courtright live at FORM not long ago and now he’s released a video for “Swan Song” off his upcoming self-titled LP debut, which is due out this fall and features Nicole Miglis and Zach Tetreault of Hundred Waters (who appear on “Swan Song”) Julie Byrne, Jake Falby of Mutual Benefit, and more.

Filmed in Brooklyn’s Prospect Park all on his iPhone, the video for “Swan Song” features Courtright giving good face and emoting alongside his dancer friend and longtime collaborator Erik Thurmond. As Courtright explained to us…

We spent a lol-filled day in Prospect Park just as spring was a-spranglin’. I wanted to use it to explore male affection and friendship, but also as a way to glorify the beauty of spring in the context of a very homo landscape. The song itself is about letting go of notions of “true love,” i.e. that which is sold to us in movies and magazines, and coming to terms with the fact that love is a conversation, a process, a journey, and at no point does one simply “fall in love and the rest is history.” Love takes work, and patience, and involves hurt, and grief. So I wanted to honor that with flowers and sunshine and some gay-ass dance moves. Also a literal swan appeared out of nowhere to star in the film. I named him Stevie.
