After what seems like an eternal wait, we’re finally just a week away from finally hearing Stormzy’s debut studio album, Gang Signs and Prayer. The South London superstar already released the first video in support of the album, for “Big For Your Boots,” and has been hitting the press circuit as of late too.
Last night he paid a visit to BBC Radio 1’s famed Live Lounge where he performed “Big For Your Boots” before surprising everyone with a cover/remix of Kanye West’s The Life Of Pablo stunner “Ultralight Beam.” He rhymed over gospel singers and included a shoutout to his girlfriend, presenter Maya Jama, as well as made a reference to Damilola Taylor, a young Nigerian schoolboy who was killed after emigrating to England. Stormzy himself is of Nigerian descent.
Take a listen to Stormzy’s version of “Ultralight Beam” below, and watch for Gangs Signs and Prayer to drop February 24.
