One of our favourite times of year to travel is Spring. Not only is it one of the best times to head to most destinations without the hassle of thousands of fanny pack wearing tourists, it’s the perfect time to flee home while the weather takes its time through bouts of unpredictable rain and rising and falling temperatures. Why not go explore somewhere totally foreign to overcome those late spring woes?
As avid travellers during at this time of year, we thought we’d share some of the items we just couldn’t live without that have saved us and kept us looking and feeling fresh, time and time again.
Malin + Goetz 1oz Essentials
Heading out on a world tour and don’t want to rely solely on hotel toiletries? We dig this Malin + Goetz essentials kit because it has everything you need for a week away for face, body and hair, including their Grapefruit Face Cleanser, Vitamin E Face Moisturizer, Bergamot Body Cleanser, Vitamin b5 Body Moisturizer, Peppermint Shampoo and Cilantro Conditioner.
Rimowa Bossa Nova Cabin Multiwheel, Jet Green – Beige
Travel the world in style with Rimowa’s new jet green polycarbonate Bossa Nova suitcase. Done up in shiny green, this rather fabulous case is trimmed with luxurious tan leather at the sides and at the handles. Like all Rimowa’s its multiwheel system allows you to easily roll through any airport with out heavy tugging most suitcases require. It also weighs less than your average suitcase at 7.75 pounds, so you don’t have to worry about being over weight.
Monocle Travel Guide Series
Trusted global tastemaker magazine Monocle has long reported their tips to travel the world, so it only makes sense they would release travel guide series. While we’ve only travelled with their guide once, we can confidently say, the spots the guide pointed us to were some of the coolest and most interesting places we visit on our trips.
They’ve just released Vienna alongside Rio de Janeiro, Singapore, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Paris, New York, Miami, Istanbul, Madrid, and London. But don’t expect the normal tourist attractions, these books are only about a cities gems.
MARVIS Seven Flavours Toothpaste Set
If you’re travelling anywhere in the world, except maybe Tokyo or a super luxurious hotel, there is one items too often overlooked in toiletry cases, toothpaste. That’s why when we start our travel season we grab one of these Marvis flavour sets which feature every variety from this Italian brand. Pack one in your toiletry case and replace it every time you get home.
Carry-On Cocktail Kit
There’s nothing more boring on a long flight than a regular old mixed drink. You’re not rushing to be anywhere, and you have time to sip and enjoy, so why not pack yourself the components you need to kick that bottle of Bourbon up a notch?! That’s why we never travel without a carry-on cocktail kit.
It comes withe everything you need to make an Old Fashioned including bitters, sugar, a bar spoon, and even a linen coaster to place it elegantly on when you’re done.
Aesop Protective Body Lotion SPF50
Have you been searching for a compact bottle of sunscreen you can pack in your toiletry case without taking up a ton of real estate? Look no further than Aesop’s Protective Body Lotion with SPF50. Not only does it not have that normal sunscreen smell, it goes on as you pump lightly enough to protect against the suns damaging UVA and UVA rays. Formulated with Vitamin E, this lotion has a refreshing botanical aroma that’s pleasant instead of offensive.
Sole Serum
If you’re forgoing the beach vacation this spring, you’ll likely be doing a fair amount of walking. But what happens when those new shoes you packed start bugging you? You don’t want to miss out on any inch of your vacation, and that’s why we always pack Sole Serum, which numbs your feet for up to three hours after application. It takes up less space than toothpaste and it actually works. Trust us.
Travel Battery
Probably the most essential item in your travel arsenal, next to a great suitcase is your external battery. It can save your life on trips where you’re spending more time outside of your hotel room than in it, especially when you’re in a foreign country, using your map apps to navigate your way through the streets. While it’s not prettiest, the Nexxtech 10,000 mAh Power Bank is our go-to after killing many Mophie-brand products. Not only can it charge power hungry devises like iPads and the iPhone 6S Plus multiple times over, which many other batteries won’t, it can also charge two devises at the time, without slowing down on delivery times.
Travel Humidifier
It goes without saying that travel can really dry out your skin, so why not go that extra step and pack a travel humidifier to keep your room comfortable while the heat is blowing in the cooler months. We recommend a cool mist one for ultimate hygiene like this Crane Ultrasonic one from Bed, Bath, and Beyond. It works for 10 hour straight so you can leave it on all night even if you sleep in and refill it in the morning.
Cowshed Travel Candles
Less frequent travellers might not think to pack a travel candle when embarking on a short weekend trip, but us long haulers have come to find a candle burning in your hotel room strangely comforting. While some more boutique hotels tend to offer a candle as a more expensive amenity in or around the minibar, we find it’s better to have one that’s a packable size in case you’re not done burning it when you leave.
We love these Cowshed sets of four because they’re tiny and smell deliciously fresh, yet have a 10-hour burn time. The Moody scent is especially nice to calm your nerves and lift your spirits combining Rose Geranium, Linden Blossom and Frankincense.
