This past fall, shimmery electro-pop prince Skylar Spence aka Ryan DeRobertis released his debut record Prom King. The entire thing is a fun, dance-inducing delight that will keep you grooving the whole way through. We dug the sugary vintage vibe of his video for “Affairs“, meanwhile the new video for “I Can’t Be Your Superman” turns up the drama and the weird.  And we’re here for it. The Meagan Houang directed clip features a fight, chemical reactions, giant dancing fingers and more. As DeRobertis explains…
Four singles into ‘Prom King’ and I started to feel we’d explored the “budding romance” trope to its fullest extent in our music videos. So when it came time to discuss ideas for “I Can’t Be Your Superman,” the last video accompanying the LP, I was ready to try something new. Originally we’d thought of an idea where my live band and I would participate in a mock episode of a cooking show (think “Cutthroat Kitchen”) but when that proved to be a logistical nightmare, we linked up with Maegan Houang who conceptualized something REALLY rad! It’s part nail salon nightmare, part Daft Punk homage, and those who are uncomfortable with unhappy endings should steer clear!

Check out the wonderful weirdness above.

Prom King is out now on Carpark. Grab it on iTunes here. Catch Skylar Spence live at one of the dates below and go dance up a sweat.
