NPR’s newest episode of Tiny Desk Concert features Ahmed Gallab’s City Slang-signed funk project, Sinkane.
For this intimate experience, Gallab has pieced together a large collective of seven musicians. The three-song set list includes “U’Huh,” “Favorite Song” and “Deadweight.”
Gallab has spent formative time in various cities rich in culture, and its influences are clearly present in his compositions. He grew up in London, and has lived in Sudan and Ohio. He currently resides in New York City, and its celebrated jazz music is represented in the rhythms of Sinkane. Traces of Sudanese desert sounds are also evident in his melodies.
