The Opening Ceremony shop in LA is a wondrous place where any true fashion lover will lose themselves within every detail oriented little cubby, room, and vault that hold probably the coolest, well selected collections from emerging indie labels.
Separated into two parts, the 10,000 square foot building spans nearly the entire block on North La Cienega Boulevard, with one quarter of the ground floor devoted to accessories, while the rest is a two floor apparel heaven housing the OC private label collection as well as new and established American designers like Rodarte, Alexander Wang, Jeremy Scott, SUNO, United Bamboo and Vena Cava, to talent from abroad like Christopher Kane, Kitsuné, Calla, Hussein Chalayan, Elke Kramer, and House of Holland.
If it’s one thing Opening Ceremony has a knak for, it’s finding the coolest apparel, accessories, books, and thingamajigs and making them exclusive to their shops, weather it be through a collaborative collection or a particular piece designed specially for OC. Their collaborations to date have included Spike Jonze, Pendleton, Rodarte, Levi’s, Chloë Sevigny, agnès b., Timberland, Keds, and Robert Clergerie, to name a mere few, with only three major retail locations in New York, LA, and Tokyo.
The LA location has become a part of the city’s vast niche shopping landscape and was previously Charlie Chaplin’s dance studio before Carol Lim and Humberto Leon took it over in 2007. The second floor of the space is what they call a branded “mini-mall”, housing rooms separated by designer to create a unique retail environment and atmosphere for each label, which currently includes Opening Ceremony’s private label, Nom de Guerre, Other Music, Schiesser Revival, Band of Outsiders, Acne, Mayle, Topshop, Exquisite Costume, and DAP Art Books.
Opening Ceremony LA was one of the highlights of our most recent trip to LA, not only because of the well-presented collections or the space, but also the friendly well-dressed staff. It’s a definite must-visit location for any lover of Opening Ceremony and fashion in general.
