Shan Hur has made taken the art term “still life” to another level. The London-based artist has literally embedded his sculptures into the walls and pillars of a gallery. It seems like they’re being excavated more than being displayed. Shan himself has an interesting take on the collection. He says, ““One of the issues I have focused on is how to reduce the burden of the volume of sculpture. I then connect this mass to its surroundings, but not just as part of the whole. I think sculpture should communicate with its circumstances.”
