Seiko is diving back into its archives, this time with a modern refresh unveiling two new Prospex Marinemaster 1968 Heritage Reinterpretation models, reworking one of its most iconic dive watches with contemporary upgrades. Drawing directly from Seiko’s original 1968 300m diver, the new references, HBF001 and HBF002, retain the defining details that made the original a standout, including its bold case shape and signature 4 o’clock crown. This time around, those elements are refined with sharper finishing and updated materials built for modern performance.
The dials arrive in either deep black or gradient blue, both finished with subtle textures and beveled indices designed to enhance underwater legibility. Ceramic bezel inserts add durability, while Lumibrite detailing ensures visibility in low-light conditions, staying true to the functional DNA of the Prospex line.
A standout within the release is the JAMSTEC Limited Edition, created in partnership with the Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology. This version features a striking three-dimensional dial inspired by Arctic icebreaker tracks, tying the watch back to real-world exploration and Seiko’s ongoing connection to marine research.
Powering both models is the Caliber 8L45, a high-grade mechanical movement offering a 72-hour power reserve and built using Seiko’s proprietary Spron alloy for increased strength and reliability. Updated clasps with micro-adjustment capabilities round out the package, delivering both comfort and precision.
The black-dial HBF001 will join Seiko’s permanent collection, while the JAMSTEC Limited Edition HBF002 is capped at just 1,000 pieces worldwide—making it a strong contender for collectors. Both models are available for pre-order now, with a global release slated for July.
