Seiko looks back to the beginning with two new additions to its Presage Classic Series Craftsmanship collection, drawing inspiration from the 1913 “Laurel,” Japan’s first wristwatch.
The new Enamel Laurel and Urushi Lacquer Laurel models reinterpret the pioneering timepiece through two traditional Japanese decorative arts. The Enamel Laurel features a lustrous white hand-applied enamel dial beneath a dual-curve sapphire crystal, retaining details from the original including vintage Arabic numerals, a running seconds subdial at 6 o’clock and the distinctive red 12 o’clock marker.
Its counterpart takes the same inspiration in a darker direction with a deep black Urushi lacquer dial, finished with a refined gold-toned case and retro-inspired detailing. Both watches are paired with sustainably sourced, Leather Working Group-certified black leather straps.
Inside, the two models are powered by Seiko’s in-house Calibre 6R5H automatic movement, offering approximately three days of power reserve and an accuracy rating of +25/-15 seconds per day.
Together, the watches bring Seiko’s earliest wristwatch design into a contemporary setting while preserving the traditional craftsmanship that has shaped Japanese horology for generations.
Both models are available for pre-order on August 13 on the Seiko Boutique webstore, with deliveries starting in September. Prices range from £1,250 to £1,400 GBP, or approximately $1,680 to $1,882 USD.
