For Spring 2027, Rachel Scott’s Proenza Schouler woman is less interested in fashion’s rules than in making them her own. Presented at the former Rubin Museum on West 17th Street, the collection drew on the particular freedom of New York dressing, where a gown can feel casual and everyday pieces can easily become eveningwear.
The setting carried its own Proenza Schouler history, a building that once housed Barneys’ women’s store, which was the first retailer to carry the brand in 2002.
The collection was sensual, slightly undone and distinctly personal. Cowling, rounded hips and layered silhouettes softened sharper lines, while seams traced the body and twisted stripes wrapped around the figure. Merino knits became more fluid and tactile, while sheer layers, strong colour combinations and fluorescent pink cotton velvet pushed the collection into bolder territory.
Scott’s approach to craft was equally expressive. Tigers appeared through silk plissé and hand-knit intarsia, tufting and sequins, while roses emerged through cyanotypes and textured pigment printing. Denim was transformed using an archival garment-printing technique, creating an almost canvas-like finish.
Accessories brought a practical New York sensibility, led by the new PS1 Walker, a softer evolution of the house’s iconic PS1. Footwear exposed its construction through Opanka and San Crispino techniques, with folded leather roses, grommets and hand-stitching adding to the collection’s tactile appeal.
