Strutting on stage with a big grin on his face, lead singer Matt Korvette of the punk band Pissed Jeans proclaimed “I just found out what we are getting paid for this, we getting paid that Bjork money… that Belle and Sebastian money,” before eating a pink Freezie. Putting aside his day job as an insurance claims adjuster in Philadelphia, Korvette and co. took to the mid-sized Red Stage on Day Two of the Pitchfork Music Festival in Chicago.
Blasting through tune after tune of hard-hitting, 80’s flavoured punk the band was in top form, quite obviously enjoying themselves in the scorching Mid-West heat. “Oh you think it’s hot out there in the sun? Try being up here in the shade…” laughed Korvette as he and Guitarist Bradley Fry battled over the perfect camera op spot. The fans were loving it, and even singer Daughn Gibson could be seen watching from the side stage smiling and nodding along.
Spitting fiery lyrics that balance precariously between the comedic and the political, Pissed Jeans are long overdue for the spotlight and fame they deserve.
