Seattle pop-punk-pop feminists Tacocat have been making tunes for almost 10 years now, and it’s about damn time you listen up. Made up of Emily Nokes, Eric Randall, Bree McKenna & Lelah Maupi, Tacocat already have two studio albums under their belts plus a handful of EPs, and apparently they were nominated for a High Times Doobie Award once.
After making rumbles around their homebase for a while, we first fell for Tacocat in 2014 after seeing the rad video for their amazing period themed anthem “Crimson Wave” (below) off their second studio album and breakthrough record, NVM.
It wasn’t long before we were diving back and sinking into their discography, falling in love more and more with each catchy track.
Tacocat are both fun and political, approaching feminist issues with satire and humour. As vocalist Emily Nokes explained to Last Year’s Girl…
I just write about what’s on my mind at the time, or what’s on my band-mate’s minds — be it candy or periods or gentrification of the X-Files. But yes, while we have all this information via the internet, we also have cesspools of trolls attacking women and hateful conservatives doubling down on archaic bullshit (like abortions) that should have been firmly decided before I was born. It’s ridiculous. I like the idea of making fun of it though, I think that satire tends to speak very loudly, if not louder than actually screaming. And it infuriates the patriarchy.
Tacocat have just released their third studio album, titled Lost Time, which is an X-Files reference for those not in the know. We’ve been obsessed with their single “Talk” (above) and their candy sweet video for “I Hate The Weekend” which you can check out below.
Because they’re oh so dope, Tacocat were called upon to do up the new theme song for the Powerpuff Girls reboot. Their take? Sugar, spice and everything nice of course!
Even Bernie Sanders knows what’s good. Tacocat recently played his rally in Seattle, and the Bern thanked them, adorably calling them “The Tacocat Band” in the clip below.

They also just dropped a video for “Dana Katherine Scully”, another X-Files ode that will delight super fans and non-believers alike. Watch below.
