We dare you to put on Krrum’s latest track “Evil Twin” and not feel the urge to get your dance on. Actually, we shouldn’t go any further until you’ve heard it. Go on, push play.
Now that you’re familiar, let’s move on shall we?
Alex Krrum, aka Krrum is the 20-year-old bearded producer and artist from Leeds who created the four perfectly evolved R&B, indie electro and house tracks that make up his brand new Evil Twin EP. Dropping earlier this year on UK indie label Adventure 23, his sound is definitely hard hitting to say the least, melding real guttural future beats with unexpected soulful vocals that remind us of Ben Khan and Sampha.
A graduate of Leeds University, Krrum came up with his namesake, funnily enough while working at a local butcher shop. Influenced by Jai Paul, early Gorillaz, and Justin Vernon, Krrum started making music at the tender age of 13, and his development shines through on his EP. He somehow managed to transcend his influences, coming on strong in the best way possible, it’s no wonder you’ll hear his tunes on Beats 1 from time to time.
He’s definitely one to watch. And speaking of watch, check out his new video for his latest single “Evil Twin” below which features a magical cut and paste tapestry not unlike his EP album art.
Ultimately it was “Morphine” that started it all back in December of last year, which he professes is about “struggling to let go of something, even if it’s causing you grief and you know you’d be better off without it.”
