Earlier this week in New York, Nike hosted 27 of the world’s top athletes at Spring Studios to celebrate and unveil their spring summer 2015 collections. We had the opportunity to attend, and only a few days later, are still feeling empowered by everything we saw and heard.
We took in a panel discussion led by three-time olympic gold medalist Allyson Felix in which five other olympic medalists including paratriathlete Sarah Reinertsen, professional tennis player Li Na, professional basketball player Skylar Diggins, marathon runner Joan Benoit Samuelson, and Hawaiian surfer Carissa Moore chimed in on what inspired them to achieve their goals, empower others, and how the give back to their respective communities. A room outside the studio highlighted some of Nike’s biggest millstones for their athletes with staged products framed throughout the installation at which a giant sculpture was the centre piece.
According to President and CEO Mark Parker, “sport and fitness are powering a new lifestyle shift for women around the world,” and Nike is at the forefront of it with women around the world choosing to work out and run with them. Amy Montagne, VP and general manager of Nike Women went on to say that, “with such an explosion of creativity in sport and a growing lifestyle that seamlessly integrates [a women’s] run and workout with the rest of her day, Nike has never been better positioned for growth.”
Other athletes in attendance earlier this week included Angelica Bengtsson, Sofia Boutella, Leticia Bufoni, Xue Chen, Brianne Theisen-Eaton, Marlen Esparza, Joanna Jozwik, Sally Kipyego, Daria Klishina, Alana Nichols, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, Paula Radcliffe, Laura Robson, Brianna Rollins, Sanya Richards Ross, Carolina Salgado, Maria Clara Salgado, Dafne Schippers, Zhang Shuai, Adelina Sotnikova, and Katarina Johnson-Thompson, as well as Nike models Karlie Kloss and Joan Smalls.
