Nike is no stranger to releasing special prototypes and samples that both innovate and pay homage to the past, present and future of the brand. (Most recently, the Swoosh dropped a Cortez inspired by the original sample worn by Kenny Moore in 1965.)

Today, the Nike Special Projects design team unveiled a new silhouette dubbed the Gakou Flyknit – a contemporary sock-like runner devoid of any Nike branding (except for a small embossed logo on the suede heel). If you’re looking at it and see a viable spot for the Swoosh, that’s exactly what Nike wants you to do. They couldn’t decide on a position so they’ve included custom rubber stencils.

The possibilities for the new silhouette appear to be endless if the sneaker and art communities take notice. You can get your hands on triple white and triple black iterations of the Nike Gakou Flyknit “DIY” beginning August 24 at select retailers and online.
