Nicki Minaj has dropped a new track, “The Pinkprint Freestyle,” just to remind y’all who the Queen of Rap is right now. We’re coming up on two years since the release of her last album, The Pinkprint, and aside from a few features on radio hits (Rae Sremmurd’s “Throw Sum Mo,” Ariana Grande’s “Side To Side”), we’ve been starved from new Nicki for a while. She lays her verses down thick over instrumentals used for Brooklyn MC’s Young M.A’s track “OOOUUU” before breaking the beat out into a sample of dancehall legend Shabba Ranks’ “Ting-A-Ling.” Minaj quotes bits of M.I.A.’s “Paper Planes” (which garnered some love from the London MC) and slips in a Harambe reference because why not? We’re unsure if “The Pinkprint Freestyle” flags the end of an era for Nicki to segue into the next, but we do hope this means more new Nicki-only tracks are on the way.
