With a romantic start-up story and a brand new full length out Bishop Morocco are taking off and fast.
Made up of two west-end Toronto buddies, Jake Fairley and Jim Sayce, who secluded themselves in Groningen from everyone they knew to write and record an album (swoon). Their complex sound weighs heavily as an ode to 80’s Brit pop and is reminiscent of their obvious influences like The Smiths and New Order.
Available now on one of our favourite Toronto-based indie labels Hand Drawn Dracula, the solid 10-track album has me dreaming with their decidedly less depressing Joy Division-like soundtrack.
Be sure to check out the track and video for “Last Year’s Disco Guitars”, directed by Rita Michon, staring a rather endearing local fashion designer, Rita Liefhebber (who happens to bare a striking resemblance to Chloë Sevigny) and Jacob Jurkiewicz (who I’m pretty sure I went to high school with).
Catch them live on August 28th at Parts and Labour where they’ll play alongside The Procedure Club and Little Girls.
