Mitski already caught our attention with her 2014 album Bury Me at Makeout Creek and we can’t wait to hear her follow up, Puberty 2. Earlier this year she dropped a memorable video for lead single “Your Best American Girl” and now she’s shared another equally as bad ass Puberty 2 cut, titled “Happy”, a vulnerable and relatable track that paints happiness as a lover that ends up ghosting on you. As Mitski explains…

“Happiness f**ks you. Once it’s in your hands you try to hold onto it, but the nature of happiness is that it passes through and eventually leaves, and something else – sadness, anger, a low after the high – has to follow. This song is about this exhaustive and exhausting cycle, and how sometimes one would rather not have any of it at all than be constantly thrown about by the waves of these fleeting states.”

Listen to “Happy” above.

Puberty 2 comes out June 17 on Dead Oceans. Pre-order a physical copy here or grab a digital pre-order it via iTunes here. You can also catch Mitski live at the dates below.
