After her 2013 breakout album Escapology, Toronto’s main mistress of movement and good vibes is back. Maylee Todd has been in the studio, producing her own beats and cooking up some new sweet sounds. A press release describes her new direction saying it’s “as appropriate for introspective nights at home as it is for the sweaty goat warehouse parties” to which we reply, hell yeah! Who doesn’t love a sweaty goat warehouse party!?
With this news comes “Lonely” a new video from Todd, directed & filmed by Fred Yurichuk, Jason Lutz, and Maylee Todd herself. The video features a dance performance by Minae Omi and a kaleidoscope of emotions. Who knew you could dance along to loneliness? We’re here for it. Maylee Todd on the track…
“Lonely is about the struggle of solitude, and the dissatisfaction of online connections. Exhausted by feelings of discontent, the subject rebuilds a new relationship with herself.”
Check out the video for “Lonely” above. “Lonely” will be available as a 7” Vinyl and as a free download on November 27th. On December 11th Todd will transform Toronto’s Great Hall into a “Virtual Womb.” The show will display artists work; dancers, projections, and musicians while the audience takes in all magic, lying on the floor. Bring a blanket, check your shoes and take it all in. Grab tickets here.
