For Spring/Summer 2027, Nicolas Ghesquière turns his attention to the relationship between clothing and the body, using ergonomics as the starting point for a collection that feels remarkably light, fluid and in constant motion.

Titled Ergonomie, the collection builds on a particularly Louis Vuitton idea: clothing designed for movement, travel and life in motion. But rather than treating function as something utilitarian, Ghesquière translates it into a sophisticated study of how clothes can respond to the body. Silhouettes mould to the wearer rather than imposing themselves upon it, creating a kind of second skin that shifts with every movement.

The effect is one of extreme lightness. Chiffons are layered and composited, carré silks and silk-cashmere scarf fabrics appear almost impossibly delicate, while traditional tailoring is stripped back, with internal construction removed wherever possible. Knitwear follows the contours of the body, while footwear provides a grounding element beneath otherwise weightless looks.

What makes the collection particularly compelling is the tension between apparent simplicity and the complexity underneath. Pieces that look almost structureless are in fact carefully engineered, using different surface tensions and layers to follow the body’s changing contours. Ghesquière is not abandoning structure so much as making it invisible.

That idea extends into the presentation itself. Against a static cityscape, individual figures appeared almost like objects defying gravity, moving through the landscape with the lightness of feathers or balloons. The contrast made the central idea of the collection even clearer: a world that may be static, but a body that is designed to move through it.

It is a distinctly Ghesquière approach to Louis Vuitton. Rather than looking backwards at the house’s heritage, he takes one of its most fundamental ideas, the relationship between clothing, travel and movement, and pushes it forward. The result is fashion engineered not to restrict the body, but to keep up with it.
