To see J. Tillman in person is to be energized. His theatrical stage presence commands your attention with this weird but brilliant effortlessness. But it wasn’t just dramatics that won over last night’s very sold out crowd, it was the overall experience that is Father John Misty.
The Danforth Music Hall was treated to a soul-satisfying 20 song set on Wednesday, which jumped seamlessly between the classical feeling Fear Fun, and the newer, larger and more robust I Love You, Honeybear. But neither seemed to be favourited, as every song had Toronto captivated through tight instrumentals and better-in-life vocals. Needless to say, FJM’s signature sarcastic, yet confident presence had the room on a string.
